We are often asked what kind of service is needed for the heart of our machine – the turbo-compander (combination of compressor and expander).
MIRAI INTEX compressors are based on the principle of working without the use of traditional friction bushings that require lubrication. Instead, it uses ‘air bearings’.
Air bearings eliminate the need for complex lubrication management, but how? After initial start-up at low speeds, the shaft makes contact with a foil support. As speed increases, the shaft begins to float on the air cushion created by the increased air pressure during rotation. This creates an effect where the compander parts do not touch each other and do not create the friction that causes wear on its parts.
As a result, the compander is designed to operate for up to 20 years without the need for maintenance or oil refills.
