Pierre Fabre Médicament – SuperCritical Fluids Division – proposes its expertise to external partners. This unit uses supercritical fluids for:
- Pre-formulation (coating, complexation by cyclodextrin, solid dispersion, etc.)
- Extraction, purification
- Cleaning of medical devices
Regarding the innovative pre-formulation solutions proposed, the three current patented processes developed are high performance: the impressive results are better than those obtained by conventional processes and, moreover, these processes are totally environmentally safe.
The processes Formulplex® (complexation with cyclodextrins), Formuldisp® (stable solid dispersion) and Formulcoat® (taste-masking), performed with supercritical CO2, are mild and green processes which can be applied even to OTC drugs.
The results obtained with Formulplex are so efficient that they permit not only the increase of the solubility and bioavailability of an API but also give the possibility to be used for the development of too poorly-soluble drug candidates.
Our innovative coating process Formulcoat is a continuous process with a high productivity not ever proposed by pre-formulators. It gives a performing taste-masking even for small and sensitive particles, without organic solvent use and at room temperature.
