California-based Molecular Devices provides bioanalytical solutions for protein and cell biology in life science research, pharmaceutical and biotherapeutic development.
The company’s solutions are built on proprietary technology platforms that deliver high performance, flexibility and reliability.
Good practice compliance solutions for pharmaceutical laboratories
Molecular Devices specializes in comprehensive compliance solutions with microplate detection systems and software. Combined with validation services and support, it assures data integrity.
The company’s SoftMax® Pro Software is designed to achieve full compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11, with streamlined workflows to ensure data integrity. Every step is optimized to simplify analysis and reporting to support Molecular Devices microplate readers.
The software’s paperless document status system maintains data integrity, with control over e-signatures and document workflows. Project teams can track documents while they move through development, review, release and usage in a controlled environment.
Validation plates for microplate readers
The SpectraTest® Validation Plates check that microplate readers capable of absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence are operating correctly for labs. The plates use photometric accuracy tests to verify how close an absorbance measurement is to the true value, which can be traced to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and NMI (National Metrology Institutes).
Users can determine the accuracy and repeatability of the wavelength selection with the monochromator, which includes separate tests for excitation and emission. They can also qualify the kinetic noise that measures the stability of the optical system at low and high signals, including separate tests for spikes and drift at low and high levels.
Absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measuring systems
The SpectraMax® i3x Multi-Mode Microplate Reader measures absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence. There are several upgrades available for the product, including western blot, cell imaging and fast kinetics with injectors, as well as additional detection modes. With the SpectraMax® MiniMax™ 300 Imaging Cytometer, industry-leading SoftMax Pro Software and user-configurable detection modules, users can explore cellular pathways and protein expression on a single microplate reader.
The SpectraMax i3x injector cartridge with SmartInject® Technology expands users’ research capabilities to include flash-based applications such as dual luciferase and ATP assays. The cooled photomultiplier tube (PMT) reduces background noise, allowing for a more sensitive, wide dynamic range in extremely low light. The combination of a xenon flash lamp and LEDs provides unmatched signal strength and superior sensitivity with Spectral Fusion™ Illumination.
Multi-mode microplate readers
The SpectraMax® iD3 and iD5 Multi-Mode Microplate Readers measure absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence. The iD5 reader also measures time-resolved fluorometry (TRF) and fluorescence polarization (FP), and can be expanded to measure time-resolved fluorescence energy transfer (TR-FRET), homogeneous time-resolved fluorescence (HTRF), bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET), dual luciferase reporter assays with injectors, and western blot detection.
The readers offer optimized reagents and SoftMax Pro Software and can be operated using the touchscreen or a computer. Built-in near-field communication (NFC) functionality allows clients to access custom protocols and results with a single tap.
The intuitive touchscreen software simplifies tasks with Quick Read icons and a personalized library that can store frequently used protocols. The optical system includes a xenon flash lamp and an ultra-cooled PMT detector, reducing background noise for greater sensitivity and giving a wide dynamic range.
The SpectraMax® M Series Multi-Mode Microplate Readers measure ultraviolet (UV) and visible absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, FP, TRF and HTRF. Standard features include a cuvette port, spectral scanning in 1nm increments, and up to six wavelengths per reading. With optimized reagents, validation tools and SoftMax Pro Software, the readers are designed for consistent performance.
Absorbance microplate readers for ELISAs and other assays
The SpectraMax® ABS and ABS Plus Absorbance Microplate Readers provide flexibility, sensitivity and convenience for a wide range of assays, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), microbial growth and protein quantitation.
Both readers feature an eight-channel read head for fast reads, as well as the temperature-independent PathCheck® Sensor, which automatically normalizes and ensures accurate absorbance values by detecting pipetting errors.
The readers use a monochromator-based wavelength selection for visible and UV-visible absorbance, removing the need to purchase and change out filters. The user-programmable Automix feature can mix samples thoroughly in microplate wells, and clients can monitor temperature-sensitive reactions from ambient temperatures to 45°C.
