The COVID-19 concern during the first week of June declined steadily and averaged at 41% as the number of new cases and deaths globally fell by 15% and 8% respectively. The decline was more noticeable in European and South-East Asia regions although the number of cases increased in countries such as India, Brazil, Argentina, and the US.

The health concern declined further during the second week to an average of 37.6% as the number of new global cases continued to decrease across all regions, particularly South-East Asia, Europe, and Western Pacific. The number of new cases and deaths declined by 12% and 2% respectively although an increase in new cases was reported in the US. The week also saw the lowest weekly case incidence for the first time since February 2021.

COVID-19 concern fell to the lowest level since the start of the poll during the third week of June, reaching 35.38% at the end of the week as the decline in new global cases continued through the week. New weekly cases and deaths declined by 6% and 12%, respectively. The highest decline in new cases was registered in India (30%) and Argentina (16%) although the Russian Federation and Brazil continued to report an increase in cases. The Delta variant of the COVID virus remained a cause of concern as the variant was reported in more than 85 countries globally.

The Delta variant continued to spread to 96 countries by the last week of June, when health concern increased to an average of 38%. Majority of these countries reported an increase in the number of cases and hospitalisations associated with the variant. The number of new cases reported globally, however, remained unchanged from the previous week although mortality rate declined by 10%, reaching the lowest since November 2020.
