By GlobalDataGlobally, the total coronavirus infection cases have passed 90,000, of which 80,151 are in mainland China. The total number of recoveries is around 48,000.
Under China’s National Health Commission, 47,204 people recovered in mainland China. Majority of new cases and all the latest fatalities in the region occurred in mainland China.
WHO says trend in China declines
For new confirmed and suspected cases in China, the overall trend was downward for two weeks, according to NHC reports.
Meanwhile, the number of recoveries continues to rise.
At a media briefing, WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that China reported the lowest number of cases on 2 March since 22 January.
However, the number of cases outside China surged nearly nine times compared to reports inside the country.
Ghebreyesus noted that the coronavirus spread in the Republic of Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan is of greatest concern.

In a statement, the director-general said: “We are in unchartered territory. We have never before seen a respiratory pathogen that is capable of community transmission, but which can also be contained with the right measures.
“If this was an influenza epidemic, we would have expected to see widespread community transmission across the globe by now, and efforts to slow it down or contain it would not be feasible.
“But containment of COVID-19 is feasible and must remain the top priority for all countries. With early, aggressive measures, countries can stop transmission and save lives.”

South Korea reports 600 new cases, six deaths
The country has reported an additional 600 cases, taking the total to 4,812. It also reported six new deaths. The death toll in South Korea stands at 28.
Iran death toll rises to 66
Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raisi told state television that the country has reported 523 additional cases and 12 deaths, bringing the total to 1,501 cases with 66 deaths.
Covid-19 Italy cases and deaths rise
As of the end of 2 March, Italy’s Health Ministry has reported 2,036 confirmed cases and 52 deaths.
Covid-19: Death toll in US rises to six
The state of Washington in the US has reported four more death cases, taking the total to six in the country.
Furthermore, first cases have been reported in Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
