Global infections have increased to nearly 126,140, with a total of approximately 68,200 recoveries.

In mainland China, the total number of cases reached 80,793, while deaths stand at 3,169.

Wuhan reports single-digit cases

On 11 March, Hubei reported eight new confirmed cases, registered in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak in China.

Ten new deaths occurred in the province, including seven in Wuhan. A total of 1,242 patients recovered in Hubei on 11 March, including 1,053 in Wuhan.

In Hubei province, 67,781 cases, 3,056 deaths and 50,298 recoveries have been reported so far.

US restricts travel from Europe

The US has restricted travel from Europe for 30 days in an effort to control the rapid spread of coronavirus. President Donald Trump said that the restriction, which will come into effect on midnight Friday, does not apply to Britain.

The country has 1,322 confirmed cases and 38 deaths so far.

Italy tightens lockdown

Italy has tightened its nationwide lockdown to include shutting of bars, hairdressers and restaurants. The number of cases on the country has raised to 12,462 and the death toll increased to 827.

UK cases rise to 456

With 74 new cases, the total number of infections in the UK reached 456, including six deaths.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will chair an emergency committee on 12 March. The meeting is to discuss moving to the ‘delay phase’ from ‘contain’.

Qatar reports 238 new cases

Qatar confirmed 238 new cases among people under quarantine in one residential compound. This increase the total cases to 262.

These new patients reside in the same compound as three people who were diagnosed on Sunday.

Meanwhile, first cases have been reported in Cuba, Ivory Coast, Hondura, Guyana, and French Polynesia. Sweden, Greece and Ireland confirmed their first Covid-19 deaths.

WHO declares Covid-19 a pandemic

With the increasing spread and severity of Covid-19 outbreak, the WHO has declared the situation to be a pandemic.

WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement: “We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a #coronavirus. And we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled at the same time.”
