The global pharma industry noticed a 6.1% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2021 over the previous month, led by HCA Healthcare’s 5.7% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.46% when compared with January 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.56% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in February 2021, up 0.12% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of February 2021 were 1.6% lower compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.75% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 40.43% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in February 2021, an 11.96% increase over the previous month. Computer Support Specialists came in second with a share of 14.74% in February 2021, down 0.25% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.56% share in February 2021, increase of 11.71% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 14.48% share in February 2021 and rise of 11.78% over January 2021.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in February 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average increase of 12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during February 2021 over January 2021.
HCA Healthcare posted 153 IT jobs in February 2021 and registered a rise of 42.99% over the previous month, followed by F. Hoffmann-La Roche with 88 jobs and a 37.5% rise. Parexel International with 82 IT jobs and Johnson & Johnson with 64 jobs, recorded a 95.24% increase and a flat growth, respectively, while S&P Pharmaceutical recorded a 50.41% drop with 61 job postings during February 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in February 2021 with a 68.43% share, which marked a 2.51% growth over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 16.16%, registering a 9.05% month-on-month increase. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.84% share and a 20.21% rise over January 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.3% and a month-on-month growth of 16.67%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.27%, registering a 13.33% increase over the previous month.
