The global pharma industry noticed a 1.5% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by HCA Healthcare’s 6.57% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.72% when compared with August 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.82% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, up 0.02% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 2.46% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.51% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 49.11% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in September 2021, a 4.27% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 13.62% in September 2021, down 4.76% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer Support Specialists with an 11.89% share in September 2021, a growth of 24.11% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with an 11.8% share in September 2021 and a drop of 11.01% over August 2021.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 2.44% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
HCA Healthcare posted 270 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 16.88% over the previous month, followed by Bausch Health Companies with 230 jobs and a 22.56% decline. CVS Health with 194 IT jobs and F. Hoffmann-La Roche with 130 jobs, recorded a 3.48% decline and a 1.52% drop, respectively, while Johnson & Johnson recorded a 17.07% rise with 96 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 77.57% share, which marked a 0.69% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 10.68%, registering an 18.85% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 10.63% share and a 4.59% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.68% and a month-on-month drop of 30%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.39%, registering a 40.74% decrease over the previous month.
