The global pharma industry noticed a 4.7% drop in IT hiring activity in June 2022 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 10.74% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 5.87% when compared with May 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.2% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in June 2022, up 0.03% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2022 were 7.58% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 17.29% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 37.27% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in June 2022, an 18.1% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 25.95% in June 2022, up 0.2% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 16.58% share in June 2022, a decline of 21.35% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.92% share in June 2022 and a drop of 18.95% over May 2022.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in June 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.9% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during June 2022 over May 2022.
Intermountain Healthcare posted 408 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a rise of 73.62% over the previous month, followed by Evolent Health with 256 jobs and a 58.37% decline. Johnson & Johnson with 245 IT jobs and The Hastings Center with 140 jobs, recorded a 157.89% growth and a 26.13% rise, respectively, while CVS Health recorded a 10.26% drop with 140 job postings during June 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in June 2022 with a 76.73% share, which marked a 12.88% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 11.45%, registering a 24.22% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 10.77% share and an 8.71% drop over May 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.68% and a month-on-month drop of 57.38%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.37%, registering a 30% decrease over the previous month.
