The value marked an increase of 977.9% over the previous month and a rise of 556.8% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $15.43bn.
Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $86.67bn. At the country level, Ireland topped the list in terms of deal value at $85.74bn.
In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for pharma industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

In 2019, as of the end of June 2019, pharma M&A deals worth $251.63bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 52.3% year on year.

The top five pharma industry M&A deals accounted for 98.5% of the overall value during June 2019.
The combined value of the top five pharma industry M&A deals stood at $99.82bn, against the overall value of $101.32bn recorded for the month. The top announced pharma industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was AbbVie’s $85.74bn acquisition of Allergan.
In second place was the $11.4bn acquisition of Array BioPharma by Pfizer and in third place was Vertex Pharmaceuticals‘ $1bn acquisition of Exonics Therapeutics.
The $911.98m acquisition of Global Cord Blood by Cordlife Group and Merck &Inc’s acquisition of Tilos Therapeutics for $773m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
