Genistein (BIO-300) is under development as a medical radiation countermeasure for the prevention or treatment of erectile dysfunction in prostate cancer, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, radiation-induced pneumonitis, post-acute sequelae of covid 2019 (PASC or long covid), pulmonary fibrosis, decrease the incidence of mucositis, oral lesions, and salivary gland dysfunction in head and neck cancer patients and to protect healthy tissues against the damaging effects of routine CT scans and x-rays and acute respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary fibrosis patients with coronavirus infection. The drug candidate is administered by oral route. BIO-300 is a non-synthetic single molecular agent. BIO 300 is suspension of genistein nanoparticles. Genistein is a naturally occurring chemical known as an isoflavone, derived from soy products, that has been investigated as an anticancer agent and which behaves as an antioxidant.
It was also under development for the treatment of acute radiation syndrome (ARS).
