Management Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity

Management Occupations, with a share of 25%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the pharmaceutical industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 38% quarter-on-quarter. Computer and Mathematical Occupations came in second with a share of 18% in Q2 2024, with new job postings dropping by 6% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Life, Physical, and Social Science Occupations with a 9% share in Q2 2024, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 3% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in pharmaceutical industry accounted for 43% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were Sanofi, Eurofins Scientific, AstraZeneca, Novartis, and Johnson & Johnson. Together they accounted for a combined share of 43% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the pharmaceutical industry.

Sanofi posted 545 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Eurofins Scientific 490 jobs, AstraZeneca 451 jobs, Novartis 337 jobs, and Johnson & Johnson 278 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 47.17% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the pharmaceutical industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 47.17% followed by India (13.72%) and France (8.73%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points lower than the 47.54% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
