The patent US12046339B1 describes an innovative apparatus and method for processing and securing prescription data within a computer network. Central to this invention is a processor that operates in conjunction with a memory, a communications interface, a prescription module, and an authentication module. The prescription module is designed to activate a prescription application for registering prescription data only after user authentication. A key feature of the authentication module is its ability to automatically disable an entry field in the prescription application for a predetermined period following user authentication. During this time, the module ensures that the application remains active and transmits a one-time password (OTP) to an external device. Once the OTP is sent, the entry field is reactivated, allowing the user to input the OTP for secondary authentication of the prescription data.

Additionally, the patent outlines various functionalities of the authentication module, including the ability to monitor the status of the prescription application—whether it is closed, minimized, or running in the background. If the application is not active, the module can extend the disabling of the entry field for another predetermined period. The authenticated prescription data can then be transmitted to a pharmacy computer system, where it may undergo further authentication by an associated service server. Notably, the patent also encompasses the handling of prescription data related to controlled substances, emphasizing the importance of security and verification in the management of sensitive medical information.
